concept: locus or loci
The concept of locus assumes a dual character:
For our purposes either a fixed point, a focal point, or a commonplace—this account hews closer to the rhetoric of the handbooks and the Isocratean tradition.
—or—
For our purposes a way to relate terms one to another in an instance of paradigm or an enthymeme. For example, the loci of succession—cause and effect or antecedent-consequence—link terms or clauses according to
(a) what precedes what in a chain of events
(b) what form that precedence may take
This account hews closer to the peripatetic tradition.
